Help me learn to identify things...
« on: May 08, 2012, 07:23:01 PM »
Hi all I am new here....I had posted this in the 798 forum and then found this more appropriate place for my screen shots.

Just got a 798ci SI and recorded my first scan on my local spot. I looked at it last night in Humviewer and took a few snapshots of some interesting areas. I would like to know what some of you experienced image readers see in these pictures, if you dont mind...

Any other advice with how to get better images or improve my scan is welcome....

Thanks for looking!

Eins

The right side of those images looks like the northeast shoreline in the lake out in front of Jumer's Casino & Hotel near I-280.
Some small groups of suspended fish. Try that run again with the sensitivity backed down a couple notches and see if you
   don't like the image better.

Hi Eins

In sonar targets with sharp contours and good reflection, the images will be clearer.

It looks like multiple schools of suspended fish.
On the next to the last picture, at the bottom right, those are suspended fish.
You can see the shadows to the right of the fish.

On the last picture, you have some type of channel or crevice on the left side of
the SI in the middle.

When you scan, keep your boat going in as straight a line as possible.
Also, match exactly your chart speed to your mph boat speed.

Thanks all

I did this with TM in water on Bow (tranducer is mounted on my Terrova 80 I-pilot) and idling along with the Boat motor. when going that slow with the motor the front end sways a bit from left to right as I correct with steering.
Scroll speed was set at 2. I might get better results actually using the TM and locking in the Auto-pilot function for a more steady path instead of using the boat motor?

Oh I forgot....
Here is what we were pulling out of the spot on the last screen capture. We caught about 15 to 20 bass along that rip rap shorline in about an hour.
I went back after fishing and did the scan
