New 5.7 update
« on: July 16, 2011, 01:01:51 PM »
Just received an email from HB Select saying there is a 5.7 update available....stated:

The NEW Waypoint Management System that allows for waypoint groups, along with the ability to hide, show and sort waypoints.

Adjusted the sonar code to improve shallow water performance under trolling motor noise conditions.
Adjusted the sensitivity for down imaging.
Changed the default side imaging color palette to amber.
Fixed speed/temp and voltage data box when no transducer is connected.
Added a side imaging simulator.

I am wondering if I should update, everything is fine now, and I DONT want the update to mess with my Ethernet, I havent received an email on my 1198......

edward,
I just installed the 5.70 updater this afternoon on my 898c. The install went smooth, as expected. BUT some of the changes that were listed DO NOT appear. Namely the waypoint editing addition. Installed the update after fishing this morning. so will not be back on the water for a few days, not that it should make any difference.

I'd hold off a few days. I'm not the only one not seeing the waypoint management addition. I'm sure it wll work itself out after the weekend.

I updated to 5.7 and  not  seeing the waypoint management addition.
The unit is out of the boat with no transducer or GPS connected.

You may want to check if a new HumminbirdPC available. It may be needed for the grouping functions.
You may also want to check if any new sort functions exist. I hope it will offer the ability to select the
HWD file you would like to load. I checked it is not there for my unit.

Same here, just updated and no waypoint management. Have the boat in the garage. Connected it and nothing new happens (no GPS signal in the garage) Further I think that the unit does not keep the preferences, I need to set them every time I restart the unit?

Loaded 5.7 and same here don't see the changes . May be its me but can not find (Adjust sonar to improve shallow water performance under trolling motor noise conditions). Thinking it would be under set-up file any body experiencing the same . Hope I did not screw my unit up by updating it was working fine .

Hi Greg,
I think I caught up with you this morning. I'm assuming your reading this thread as I write. I left a reply on Yahoo Groups and a post on BassBoatCentral saying that 5.700 release for 998c DOES NOT WORK for the Waypoint Management Feature. Could you pass that on to the Engineering Dept. As a side bar I saw that the file size for 5.700 is within a couple hundred "K" of 5.500. One would guess that Waypoint Management addition would be at least several Meg. larger. Could 5.700 just be a bad build/release??? Just a thought.

Hmmm, it looks like something did not go right on our end.  :-[
I loaded up a 989c Si unit and could not find the waypoint management software either.  I’ve made a few calls and will have to wait and see what comes back to me on this… looks like we are waiting for the waypoint management software again…  >:(

When should I expect an e-mail for the 5.7 on my 1197.  Still shows 5.5 as all that is availble?  Did they pull the software today?

Below is a a quote from Doug Vahrenberg.

Just got some news from Hummibird:

Got the official word on this: the waypoint management software was not included in the 5.700 software release. Someone must have gotten over-anxious and jumped the gun on this. Sorry folks but we will have to wait a while longer for the waypoint management software… If you are having problems tracking the bottom in shallow water when the trolling motor is running your should download and install the 5.700 software though.

Looks like we will have to wait just a little bit longer...I'm wanting to run this new feature but I would rather wait so it comes out right...been a huge project to get the right tool the first time. Sorry for the mis-information I recieved.

Is the shallow water bottom track an adjustment if so where is it or is this done automatically. Looked as thou it was some kind of feature you would be able to adjust. Any thoughts  ???

stratofisher,
I don’t know when the 1197 or any other model will get the 5.700 software update.
What are you meaning by “did they pull the software today”?

tennwalkinghorse,
I am assuming that this is a change in the depth algorithm and not a new menu.

Just received a email from Huminbird:
==================
You were recently sent an email which contained information about software version 5.700 for your 998.  It was communicated that a featured called Waypoint Management was part of this release.  Unfortunately this information was incorrect.

Currently we do not know the exact date that this feature will be released but we will certainly notify you when it does become available.  In the meantime, we hope you benefit from the other changes that were made in this release.

Our apologizies for this miscommunication.

Regards,

Your Humminbird Select Service Team

I definately have decided NOT to update my 898c.....everything works fine now and dont need any bugs or changes...I hope they dont mess with the software on my unit, it is at HB right now getting the power switch fixed....I dont think they would just update software without asking, but who knows....

Big E,
Standard practice is to load the current software version into the units when they come into the Service Department.  So your 898c Si should come back with the 5.700 software in it.

Greg, I sure hope not, dont really need the new update right now.....Shouldnt they ask first?...Finally got all my settings and Ethernet the way I want it....If they upgraded to the 5.7 that means I have to go and re-do all my preferences I had set....dang man....lol

Big E,
To be able to run through and pass the unit test that we have, the unit has to be running the latest software.  That keeps us from shipping out a new unit that has old software in it.  Since the units that come into our Service Center have to be run through the same test than the software should have to be updated as well.  I also think that the same test resets the menu settings as well (the waypoints should still be there though).

i just installed the new update and i love the simulator mode. I'm able to really tune in my settings when my boats out of the water. Only thing i dont like is my options for my preset buttons. for instance,  preset one was set to Switch fire/Down Imaging and if i clicked exit it would just remove the the left half of the screen and i would see Down Imaging @ full screen.

Now when i click exit it just scrolls to the next screen option....not sure why its different....

overall i like the update. -DP

Still waiting for the 5.7 update for my 1197.
Until then, it's useless to make sonar recordings.
Takes 1 hour to review a 30 second recording and it looks like cr@p.

Chuck,
If you have the 5.7 update for an 1197, then something is terribly wrong somewhere. :)

Good things come to those who wait, so yes Greg, I am waiting patiently.
I'm hoping this 5.7 update will be the bomb and help me catch some big fish.

Chuck,
If you have the 5.7 update for your 1197, then either one of the following statements are true:
  1) I'm the abominable snowman
  2) You're a Humminbird very preferred customer

 :)

Guess i should update the 1198c as well.....My 898 has the latest might as well follow suite......No issues so far with the 898, other then changing all my settings back.....I'll log on to HB later n download it

What does the 5.7 do for the 1198? Same as the 898?

Greg, I fell on my butt so should have not hurt my brain.  wait a minute maybe it is brain damage.... ;D.. :-\.. >:D....Chuck
Anyway......I would try to keep the versions as close to each other as possible.  Other than connecting ether net which requires the compatable code....

Big E,
The 5.700 should do the same for every unit that gets it (Side Imaging units will not get the side imaging stuff).

As long as both units have at least version 5.410 of higher (does not have to be the same exact software version in both units) there should not be any Ethernet connection issues.
