will the motor block one side image?
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:58:13 AM »
I am looking into buying one of the side imaging units.  I have seen accessories like a splitter for cases where two transducers are necessary to get both side images.  I understand why bass boats don't ususally have an issue, because the motors are usually set back quite a bit from the transom where the transducer is mounted.

I have a 2003 Crestliner 1850 fishhawk with a 150 hp merc on it.  My transom drops straight down and the motor is not on a jack plate.  Does anyone with this kind of setup have any issues with one side of the image being blocked?  Will I need an extra transducer and a splitter cable?

Just trying to figure out exactly what this is going to cost me in money and time to get one of these puppies running on my boat.

Thanks for any insight you can give me!

I have a similar boat (albeit a smaller one) and I have no problem getting both sides. Just choose carefully where you mount it, mine is mounted pretty low, probably a little closer to the motor than recommended but it works just fine. The side beam is so narrow that close to the motor that it can pass through a pretty small gap between the transom and the motor.
