Dual Transducers For The 898
« on: April 04, 2010, 11:44:57 PM »
Ok....being kinda new to the forum, I want to ask another question before my 898 arrives.

I have been told by several as well as some of the Humminbird folks that I can use my existing 787c2i transom transducer ( XNT-9-20-T ) along with the standard XHS-9-HDSI-180-T that would be shipped with my 898 SI.

Have any of you done that or let me say, tell a difference in doing so.  Lets say you started out with the transducer that is shipped with the 898 for the tranmsom and removed your older transducer but then re-installed.  I have a "Y" cable coming to use both transducers.

Also, do any of you use the HB  Weather Sense and XM Weather on your 898 or other SI.  Does it work well on there and look good.  I have the Weather SEnse and XM Weather now on my 787c21 and going to use it now on the 898 and move the 787c2i on the front of the boat.

Thanks

Calli,

you can use your XNT-9-20-T transducer to get high speed readings in 2D in combination with the Y-cable.
This would have the advantage that you can place the more expensive SI ducer a bit further up at your transom to avoid damage.

The question is, how do you want to use the 787 on the bow? Do you want to feed it with the XNT-9-20-T transducer? Then you either need to extend the cable and run it solely with the old ducer or you get a unit switch to use both transducers on both units.

I don't use the weather stuff from HB here in Germany, so I cannot answer your question on this. But I'm sure someone else can give you an answer here.
From gut feeling I would say you can use it on the 898, 'cause it is compatible with it. But then again: Do you want to use it on just one unit or on both?
If on both, you will need an Interlink box and cables to share the weather information on them.

Thanks Harry...

I plan to only use the Weather Sense and XM Weather on the new 898.  Also, I have a new trolling motor transducer already for the 787c2i.

THanks

Well, then you're good to go go I think.

Can you post a picture of your transom so we can see where the old ducer is located and how your transom actually looks like?
Maybe we can give you some advice then where to place the new 898 transducer.

Calli1,

If you put an interlink in your boat then you can have the weather sense on both the units and your waypoints will also transfer between units with out having to save to sd cards and swap between two units.  I have weathersense with an interlink that is hooked to a 788ci in the bow and an 1197C SI at the consoule.  Sorry cant help on the XM weather as I have any Iphone and everywhere I fish I have signal so I see no reason in paying another monthly fee when I can check the weather on my phone.

Ben
I wont always catch fish but they are never going to sleep through me being there!!!
