Title: Solix to XTF
Post by: nrgbentall on March 17, 2018, 03:11:53 AM
Anyone know how to convert Solix recordings to XTF as son2xtf does not support the solix data format?

Thanks in advance

I am having the same issue with files from our Solix in son2xtf - "This is not a valid side imaging recording file."

The link given above goes to a SQL error page.

Please can someone point me to the solution.

Many thanks

If you want you can send me your recordings.
I wrote the viewer app HummSucker and I'm curious what's the difference to the Helix files.
Would be nice if my app would work with Solix too.

I would be interested to see if anyone can convert the file using son2trx to see if it's a problem with my setup or if it is a file structure problem.

The scan is very short but will prove the point.

Scan done with Solix G3 with latest firmware and using a Mega360

I have SARHawk surveyor which opens the file with no problem, but son2trx doesn't seem to like it.

I have just loaded a file into your hummsucker app with no problems.

I still need the son2trx converter to work.

Any ideas gratefully received!!

Ok, there is a difference in the folder name.
Helix: R00010
Solix: Rec00010
I don't know if that's the problem. But you could try to rename the folder and change the name in the Rec00010.DAT file too (pos 20h). (see attachment)
But the size of the Helix and Solix DAT file is also different.
I can't install son2xtf to test it. Tried it months ago already.
That's why I wrote my own app.  ;D

Thanks for the idea, but still "not a valid side imaging file"

Last try. There are more differences in the DAT file. I used a Helix one and point it to your Solix SON.
The SON file is equal to the Helix ones. Except some additional header fields. But if son2xtf reads it dynamically it should be no problem.

That has worked!

Converted in son2xtf and viewed in Deepview

I've tried another file just copying the header and changing the filename in the header and it works.

Would be interested in what info is being lost from using the wrong header!

There should no information being lost. In the DAT file is lon, lat, date, time of starting the record and number of records.
The only info that could matter is the water type fresh, salty, salty shallow, aso.
Attached is a DAT for salty water. The other is for fresh water. I don't know if it's relevant for DeepView.
