Title: Navigating to waypoint (confused)
Post by: peterv6i on July 19, 2016, 04:01:22 AM
Hi,
can someone explain me how to properly navigate to waypoint?
Look at my photo:

1.) from waypoint menu I select the WP040 waypoint..
2.) bearing is compass direction from my current position to waypoint right? (green line)?
3.) COG is course over ground and it change if I change the direction of my boat..
4.) XTE is distance between COG and Bearing?
5.) Distance is distance to the position.. (ok)

What I must look at to get closely to the position? must be COG = Bearing?
How you navigate to the waypoint?

It looks to me like you have all the steps correct Peter ...

And you do want to keep your COG close to your bearing to have the shortest distance to the POI (point of interest) ...

The only variable would be that setting a GOTO creates a "straight line" bearing to the POI ...regardless if there is any land or obstacles within that "straight line" to the POI ... So your COG may have to change to get around obstacles or land ...

Another note to keep in mind is to maintain enough speed such that COG is continuous (COG is no longer tracked and displayed below 0.6mph) ...

And if you want the GOTO function to stay activate even after you reach the POI = turn on "Continuous Navigation" under the Nav tab ...(the GOTO function will have to be manually disabled with "Continuous Navigation" set to on) ...
