Title: Power use for 998
Post by: ddono on November 27, 2014, 06:22:51 AM
When anchored overnight I was looking to operate the drift alarm .In order to conserve power is it best to turn off the sonar and reduce backlight and only have the gps running ?What would be power draw of gps only, or is there no difference?

I run a separate battery for my 998. Altho I don't have an ammeter, I notice a large difference in battery life when I reduce the backlight. That light seems to eat a lot of juice.

The backlight will use a good amount of energy. Sonar pings are next.  However a good marine battery when charged will run for quite a while on the unit... The more amps the battery the longer the run.. Our marine battery will run almost a full day... GPS/Sonar/Backlight...
