Do you encounter many GPS lost with this new version?
GPS precision is way better than the previous version but I had at least 10 GPS lost this weekend.
Also when i setup my unit, it does not keep the settings saved. its like if it was a first use... is this normal?
-
How are you shutting it down?
When pressing the power button on the unit, many things are save as part of the shutdown process. If you just kill the power with an external switch, these settings aren't saved.
-
If you are still having issues try doing a reset defaults - lots of times you need to AFTER the update too.
-
I have done a full reset default and Im shutting down with the power button.
-
That help?

i still got gps lost position, at least one per hour and more when i move fast (25mph)
but GPS display have been fixe i think because I do not have a previous issue when my boat icon was out of the actual position which was preventing me to be on the right spot.

Might give HB a call or email & explain to them, have model/serial number of unit AND GPS puck ready for them!
I wonder if it's an older GPS puck and newer software??

I would look at the electrical connections between the 798cXi HD Si unit and the battery it is powered from. We have seen where problems with these can cause GPS issues. Make sure all connections are tight (I prefer to solder all electrical connections) and are not corroded. Be sure to check the fuse, fuse holder and battery connections as well.
Your unit should be remembering most of the menu setting changes that you make. If it is not that may be symptomatic of an internal problem that may or may not be related to the GPS lost issue.
Are you using the internal GPS Receiver on your 798cXi HD Si unit or do you have it connected to an external GPS Receiver?
-
Hi Greg,
internal GPS.
if the issue was the power, would my unit be turn off too byitself in time to time?
-
Not necessarily Beaulieu80. We have seen others with GPS problems and their units never even flickered. If this is the cause of the problem you may start seeing this happen as it gets looser or more corroded.

Hi I've updated to v7.120 and now my unit will not share spotlocks and waypoints with my ipilot link. any ideas??
-
If you are still having issues try doing a reset defaults - lots of times you need to AFTER the update too.
Did you do this both before AND after update???
You may also need a newer software upate for the iP Link and hand held controller - I think around 6.9 is when code changed, HTH!
-
yes I updated the ip and controller to the latest 1.160. It strange. the 798 will record a track and operate the ip.
I can control the prop speed trough the ip 798 it just will not share waypoints and spotlocks. all worked before the updates.
I have set it back to default many times. No joy.

greghunt,
Try updating the iPilot Controller then Remote to the correct software version. Since your 798 is running software version 7.120 you need to update the iPilot Link Controller to software version 2.070 and the Remote to software version 2.020
“i-Pilot Link Controller Update - used with products at software release 6.900 or higher (Version 2.070)
Release Date: 05/08/2014
Description: v2.070 - this release is required for use with Humminbird products at software release 6.900 or higher.”
“i-Pilot Link Remote Update - used with products at software release 6.900 or higher (Version 2.020)
Release Date: 04/01/2014
Description: v2.020 - this release is required for use with all Humminbird products at software release 6.900 or higher. ”

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the reply.
The only versions I can download (on Australian Humminbird sit is v1.160 for both) can you please supply me a link to the latest software?
Thanks GregH

greghunt,
Do you have your units registered? If so, what web site did you register them on?
Send me a direct email asking for the software and I should be able to get a download link sent back to you.
