Title: Navionics Sonar Charts
Post by: thornskin on April 11, 2013, 10:55:29 PM
Has anyone used the new "freshest data" sonar charts from Navionics?  I would like to know if it is worth the $$$ to use for poorly mapped lakes and rivers. Thanks

Thornskin:
The freshest data gives over 1000 updates per day. All the HD one foot lakes had coastline corrections to it and there were about 800 new lakes launched this year through it. if you travel to different lakes for both updated safety info and new fishing info for $99 its worth it. plus cheaper than buying a new chart. Plus there is a new feature called SonarCharts that allows Humminbird users to record sonar, upload it to Navionics website, and in roughly 72 hours (eventual goal is 24hours) get brand new one foot contours to 80' in areas you and ALL Navionics users recorded. A community effort. This will give the newest info on lakes from yesterday and also allow new lakes to be mapped. For example the areas you mentioned that could use more data, this will allow brand new info to come through via freshest data.
With all that said, if you only fish one lake, depends on how much data you want for it. if you are happy with what you have on the one lake, you might be fine with what you have and if you ever change your mind, can always add it.
