I have a really hard time viewing my screens on both my 898 and 997 during bright sun light any way to correct this problem also I do have screen savers over my screens that were bought after market and very hard to install with all the cutting to get to fit correctly. do they make any already set to fit these units.

There are various stick on screen filters available that will help filter the sun.
I bought a Lexnard true vue anti-glare protector for my screen off of amazon.
There are also sun shields you can install.
I have a team waters sun shield for my 1197c.

I have 1100 series units and have not had any problems viewing my screens. Sometimes I have to change the angle of the screen especially when wearing polarized sunglasses. Most of the time I do not where sunglasses.
Is it possible that your backlight settings need to be adjusted?
I know that a few others have had an issue, but they seem to be the exception rather then the rule.

Thanks to all for your help. I will try these suggestions I talked with Hummingbird yesterday and they said this should not be and to send the units in for repair the 898 under warrenty and the 997 would be $260 for repair think I will try your suggestiions before sending in for repair. I have read many of the post on this site and I can only say this, I have been fishing tour. series for over thirty years and Hummingbird and Minnkota have always been there for me and thats all I use, thanks to them. They are electronics and no matter how good things are made there are always the possibility something can go wrong no matter who builds them. all I can say is thanks to Hummingbird and Minnkota for wonderful products.

I've been using MinnKota trolling motors a lot longer than I've
been using Humminbird sonars.
My 1197c is my first Humminbird sonar, and so far, I'm very
happy with it.
I have a 12 volt MinnKota trolling motor I bought with my boat
eleven years ago, and it's still going strong.
Never any problems with it.
Both companies make great products.

I have had Lowrance units many years and they were pretty good units and did not cause me any problems. I purchased an 1197 in 2009 and have since purchased an 1198 and a boat with a 728 installed on it. Humminbird in my opinion has the best customer service that yo can get.
My new boat has a Minnkota 80 lb thrust and it works great, it is quiet and easy to steer with the foot pedal, even at 100%. I have a small aluminum boat with a 54 lb Motorguide. I have used Motorguides for a lot of years and this is my first Minnkota, I have to say that the Motorguide is harder to control then the Minnkota and the Minnkota is quieter.
