Title: Confused about Lake Map navigation.
Post by: RPJ on January 10, 2011, 06:07:07 AM
I have a 798 with HotMaps Premium E5. Why doesn't the route that the original river channel or creek channels show on it. Is this a Humminbird issue or Navionics issue. I need this in order to navigate the main channel and creeks at a reasonable speed during bass tournaments. Also it makes it very easy to stay located over the edged of creek channels for fishing purposes. I know that somewhere the information does exist in order to have this feature because I have a competitor's lower end non SI unit with gps and these channels are clearly depicted. I love the SI and Sonar on this unit but really need this as a tournament fisherman. Does anyone else feel the same or am I just not using the unit correctly.

It has been suggested that I use the shaded depth feature but this is inadequate for what I need. I'm talking about a narrow channel line that I need to have for following.

Mapping is not a Humminbird product.
If you got a 2010 issue Navionics, from what I have read, those have a less detailed mapping than previous issues.
I just got the 2009 issue a month ago and ordered that because of the above.
It seems that as the number of waters added with more HD versons, the less detail they had.
Which body of water are you concerned with? I'll check my version to see if it if different than yours. The 2009 issue is still available. You may have to attempt to purchase an older version for the details you want.
