Title: Problems after v4.950 software update on 997c and 957c
Post by: longerb1 on June 13, 2010, 09:29:43 PM

I updated my 997c and 957c to software version 4.950 this weekend. Both software updates went fine, but I'm having two problems:

1) On the 997c I get an error message, "Interlink Reprogramming Failed" when the unit starts up.  Otherwise, the unit seems to function fine as the Sonar, GPS and Weathersense all work.

2) The GPS and Interlink no longer work on the 957c. In the system status view neither is recognized. They both worked fine prior to the update.

I'm guessing the problems on the 957c are related to the error on the 997c?

Any help you could provide is appreciated!

- Thanks, Brad

Brad,

Welcome to the forum.

Please describe your setup and exactly how each component is connected.

I would start troubleshooting by disconnecting everything from the interlink and powering on.  Then reconnect one at a time and see what happens.

I didn't do the install on the Humminbird equipment, so I don't know the configuration.  I do know it only has one GPS antennae, so I'm guessing the 957 gets its GPS via Interlink.  I can trace down the cabling to get a better understanding of the configuration, but it will take some time.  I do know prior to the upgrade the 997c was at v4.260 and 957c was at 4.510.  I performed the upgrade via SD card and powered off each unit while upgrading the other.

I will give your idea regarding the Interlink a try and let you know the results.

Thanks for your help!

The Interlink has two connections both plugged into the "display" ports and nothing plugged into the "GPS" port.  I ran the suggested tests and here are the results:

Test1: Unplug both connections (everything) from the Interlink module
Result:  997c worked perfectly / No error messages
957c no GPS / no Weathersense / no Interlink

Test2: Plug in connection from head unit 1 (957c)
Result:   997c worked perfectly / No error messages
957c no GPS / no Weathersense / no Interlink

Test 3: Plug in remaining connection coming from Weathersense module
Result:  997c displayed "Interlink Reprogramming Failed" Error message
957c no GPS / no Weathersense / no Interlink

Based on these results I put together the following system diagram.  Any ideas?

OK, disconnect the Y-cable from the GPS and Interlink on the back of the 997 and connect only the GPS to it.  Then power on the 997 and let it find the gps. (Do not connect the weather sense yet)

Then power it off and connect the Y-cable back up with the GPS going to the NMEA and the Interlink to the COM side of the Y-cable.  Now power back up again and see what happens.  (957 should not be connected yet)

If you get the 997 to program the interlink, then power down the 997 and hook the 957 up to the 2nd port.  Now power on the 997 first and let it fully boot.  Then power on the 957 and see if works as well.

If all works, connect the weather sense back in.

Let me know the results.

I called Humminbird today and they said that after performing the software update the head units reprogram the Interlink module.  However, no other modules can be between the head unit and the Interlink otherwise the Reprogramming will fail.   In my case, the Weathersense module was in-between the head unit and the Interlink module.  So that is why I was receiving the "Interlink Reprogramming Failed" error message.

Humminbird instructed me to bypass the Weathersense module and connect the head unit directly to  the Interlink module.  Once I did this the 997 was able to successfully reprogram the Interlink module.

Once the Interlink module was successfully reprogrammed then I added the Weathersense module back and recabled everthing back to the original configuration and everything worked.

So, basically  the instructions you provided were right on!

Thanks for all your help!

Brad,

Glad you got it solved!  This is a good topic for users with interlink issues since I think there are quite a few who have had similar issues.

Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.
