Title: 997 C SI transducer install on older Ranger 692 Fisherman
Post by: Chris Skibinski on August 07, 2010, 02:52:26 PM
Looking for advice & feedback on my plans for transducer install. After spending way to much time trying to figure out the smartest way to go at this and looking at many web resources, I'm pretty confident that the two transducer system will work the best.

I would plan on installing the through hull puck for high speed and the SI dual beam on the transom just below the motor mount off to the right at the semi flat portion of the V hull. From the install pictures I've seen on this site and other sites with similar stepped hulls both Rangers and other similar fiberglass boats this seems the to make the most sense. My question relates to the actual measurements of clearance right and left and also behind the transducer to the back of my outboard. The only reference on measurement has been a 15" reference recommendation right and left, what about the distance away from the lower unit? Will this placement of my SI transducer be catching image or interference with the lower unit? Is there a specific distance in inches? With this placement my outboard lower unit ends up being 8 to 9 inches behind the transducer and 12 inches off to the left. Any help or insights here would be appreciated.

Sorry can't help you... my si transducer is mounted on my jackplate and works fine...my 2d transducer is mounted outside on one of my steps...it works fine until I run above 70 mph..  I believe that you will be fine with your mount as long as the si transducer as clearance on both sides. :-\

Would need to see pictures of where you are planning on mounting the Si transducer to understand this better Chris.  I am hesitant to install a transducer in front of the lower unit (unless it is up high like on the jackplate) as it can create a air cavity at higher boat speeds that can affect the water intake of your motor as well as how water flows through the prop.  I don’t know if 12 inches to the side is enough or not and the only real way to tell would be to install it and try it…
