Title: Rattling Noise in Head Unit
Post by: Rocktober on June 16, 2012, 11:05:14 PM
I am new to this forum and this is my first post.  I just recieved my 898 today and when I took the head/control unit out of the box I noticed a rattling noise.  It sounds like there is a loose screw in there somewhere.  Should I be concerned?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nothing shold be inside the head that will rattle.  Return it at once for a new unit..

Rocktober,
Make sure that it is not the bail wire that goes to the map/memory card door.  Otherwise there should be no rattling from the unit.  If there is; call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks about this.

Greg,
Thank you for your response.  The wire you mentioned was the first thing I checked.  I have already shipped the rattling 898 back (at my expense) and ordered another one from a different seller.  Hopefully I have better luck the next time around.  I will be leaving this weekend to go to Kentucky Lake and was really needing to have the graph installed by this Friday, but now who knows.  I am a little frustrated right now.
