Replaced in-hull transducer, but now SI one don't work
« on: November 04, 2014, 03:48:27 PM »
I've had this 997cSI for a few years now. The SI 'ducer is mounted near the back step of my Ranger, then a shoot-thru 'ducer is epoxied into the bottom of the hull - both connected to a Y-cable. Somehow the in-hull cable got damaged and broke back in the battery compartment area. I ordered a new one, took the whole back end apart to access the 'ducer, knocked the old one out and epoxied the new one in, then ran the new cable to the console and connected to the Y. Instructions that came with it said to go thru a few steps in the startup menu so the unit recognizes the new transducer (which I did). Took it to the water for the first time yesterday. The new transducer works fine, but now I have no SI or DI. It seems to ONLY be recognizing the new transducer. As far as I can tell, everything else is connected and looks as it always has. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums FishPig.

Can you tell us the menu selections that it told you to make so that the new transducer is recognized?  They should not have been needed as all you should have needed to do was swap out the transducers.  I think that those instructions are if you are only using the shoot-thru transducer and your will need to change the Transducer Select menu back to the Hi-Def Sidescan setting.

Make sure the HDSI xducer is plugged into the "Side Image" leg of the AS SIDB Y cable ...

And the shoot thru xducer plugs into the "Dual Beam" leg of the AS SIDB Y cable ...

Greg, I'll have to dig out the instructions again - it was just an insert in the package. It didn't specify when to not do it. So if I go back into the same menu sequence as instructed, do I just look for an option for "Hi-Def Sidescan" and it should be back normal? Or do you still need me to post back the actual steps taken?

Just go back into the Sonar menu tab and set the Transducer Select menu back to the Hi-Def Sidescan setting.  As long as you plugged the AS-Si-DB-Y cable back up correctly (thanks Rickie) is should all start working.

Thank you - pretty sure that fixed it. I now get all those Views back so I presume it'll work when on the water.

BTW, I was incorrect earlier. The instruction page that came with the Xducer did indeed say in fine print not to do those steps if using the other transducer and y cable. Guess I should have read it closer!

I just installed the High Speed transducer in the boat with the Y cable.

Is there a youtube video showing how to go into the setup and make changes for the high speed transducer.

cardboard64,
If you installed a high speed (2D type sonar) transducer along with the AS-Si-DB-Y cable, there are no menu setting adjustments needed.  Just plug it up and go.  The 2D sonar will now always come from the high speed transducer as the AS-Si-DB-Y cable hard-wires it this way.
