Is there a shortcut to record mode?
« on: September 10, 2011, 04:33:14 PM »
Just wondering if there is a shortcut to the record mode on the 798ci HD.  Sometimes I need to start recording quickly and lose my way thru the menus.
Thx

Hi HarrisonDawgs,

You have probably done this already, but if not,...

Configure one of “View Preset” keys to display the “Snapshot and Recording View”. It is then quicker to bring up that view & press the menu button once to bring up the associated X-Press menu to start/stop the recording.

I wish they would in the future include dedicated button for this.
(...It could be just one button, with a red status light when the recording is "on")

Yep, preset is the only shortcut now..
I agree, it would be nice to hacwe a record button..one push and start recording...
Maybe in the 2013 units this will happen..

That's what I figured.  I already use the 3 presets for my favorites but I'll find a way to deal with it.  Wish the check mark button could be used for recording.  Apparently I must be ignorant cause I cant see that mine does anything but give me a bleep.  One of these days I'll figure out what it's for.

Probably the wrong place to post this but it would be nice if Humminbird would program unit so that you can arrange the screens in the order you wish to view them.  My Garmin 62 handheld gps allows the user to re-arrange the sequence of screens so that you don't have to fumble thru several enter keys to get to the screen you want next.  For instance I can move my route instructions page next to the map page so that I can go from viewing the map to getting written instructions with a "toggle" by just pressing enter once and go back by pressing the quit button.  Doesn't seem to me that this would be too hard to program.  This way I could line up my favorite screens in back to back fashion.

The Check Mark button is the old INFO button and it is rarely used unless you are looking at icons on a mapping card.

Remember that you can also Hide those Views that you are not using.  This would limit the number of Views you would have to scroll through to get to the Recording View.

No, not with the current software. I suppose that it could be at a later date if the powers-that-be decided to do this.  I mean its just a contact (button) like the other buttons and so a different action could be assigned to it – just like you can change the action of a letter on the keyboard (which is just a set of contacts that close: in other words a “button”) in many PC based games.

Figured that was where your question was headed Chuck and I would also bet that you already knew the answer!  Hit the wish List with this if you have not already done so.

E-mail can get forgotten Chuck.  If they are still looking at the Wish Lists (and the last word I got was that they were) than it is more of a permanent reminder.  They also make it easier on the Marketing and Engineering folks as well because all the suggestions are in one location on the sites they look at.

My point Chuck is that it could get lost or forgotten where the Wish List cannot (as long as Robert keeps the web site up).
