899 will not let me restore factory defaults, doesn't dispaly settings goes off

Time Out:
Had this problem since I've owned it.  Infrequently, the unit powers off on it's own. I've been able to restore factory defaults, but it usually takes 50 tries and luck before I can even get the settings and proper options to show. 

This time, I can't get it restored, thus the unit is deemed useless. 

Any other tips to get my sounder. 

I'm worn out of playing around trying to race to hit the menu twice and hope that setting will give me the option.  It does not.

Is the unit powered with heavy enough dedicated wiring from the battery directly to the unit  ...??

Has the battery been load tested  ...??

Is there a map card in the unit  ...??
