LakeMaster or Navionics for bay fishing with a HB 798ci SI
« on: August 13, 2011, 12:22:37 PM »
I have a HumminBird 798ci SI and I am planning on going bay fishing on the Texas coast more often. I am looking for recommendations for GPS bay fishing maps.

The HB website says it can use either LakeMaster or Navionics. Can anyone give me any feedback on the quality of LakeMaster’s saltwater maps? Per the Navionic’s website it appears that the Navionic’s Fish’n Chip covers the major bays, but misses the land cut and few other areas on the Texas coast. Is this really a problem for fishing those areas? Is there better GPS map?

Thanks in advance.

According to the Navionics web site, the best Navioncs card your 798
can use is the Hotmaps Premium.
I think these maps from Lakemaster and Navionics basically deal with
lakes and rivers.

If I were you, I'd call both companies and tell them exactly where you will
be fishing and see what they offer.

I'd HIGHLY suggest looking at the lakemaster if you are considering it. its not going to be what you want. your best bet is the Gold chart which will give you the rivers, marshes and saltwater areas. Gold chart gives you all of the USA on one chip. or you can look at Marine and Lakes. That gives you lakes for the state and up to 3nm of saltwater offshore if all you are doing is just the flats? that chart is only $99.
