more questions
« on: February 13, 2011, 12:57:43 PM »
First off, I bought the new 798ciHD SI. Powered it up and it looks good. Played around with it some but I have a couple more questions:
1) Whats the difference between Humminbird PC, Yellowfin and Humviewer?
2) Do I need the sonxtf software upggrade to use these?
3) How do I tell what version of software is loaded?
4) When I was trying out the view with the GPS chart on top and SI underneath, the cursor will not not scroll down to the SI image to mark SI targets of interest. The GPS chart scrolls. Whats up with that? Why have the GPS chart with a trolling grid if you can't mark SI hits along the way?
5) How to you change my profile to display the correct post time?

gofission,

1) Whats the difference between Humminbird PC, Yellowfin and Humviewer?

Humminbird PC is used to manage your Waypoints, Tracks, and Routes and is distributed by Humminbird.  YellowFin is a 3rd party app used to view Side Imaging files.  You will also need to use the HBSI converter with YellowFin.  HumViewer is also 3rd party app that views Side Imaging, Down Imaging, and 2D Sonar as well as some other features for marking waypoints, exporting tracks, and more...

2) Do I need the sonxtf software upggrade to use these?

No, you do not need to use Son2XTF to use the above apps.

3) How do I tell what version of software is loaded?

Checking Software Version

1. Power your Fishing System unit on. This can be done while on your boat in or out of the water or with power only connected to your Fishing System unit.
2. While your Fishing System unit is displaying the model number, press the Menu key. Example: your Fishing System unit is displaying “Humminbird 767 Fishing System."
3. The display on your Fishing System unit should change to show you four menu options: “Normal,” “Simulator,” “System Status,” and “PC Connect." With the four way key, use the Down Arrow key to select “System Status”.
4. The Fishing System unit will ‘time out’ and will display the System Status View. The software version is listed under “Software Version."

You need to change the "Active Side" by hitting the Menu button, and sellecting the bottom on Active Side.

5) How to you change my profile to display the correct post time?

You will need to go into your Profile and go to Look and Layout and click on the Time Offset auto detect and it should fix it.  You can click the link below to take you to the correct screen.

Hope that helps.

Good Luck,

I could not find any way to change the "Active Side". Nothing in the manual and I poked every menu option.

gofission,

I dont have the 798 so I cant say for sure its there.  Thats how it is on the 997 and 1197.

When you are in that view and hit the menu button once, you should get the express (small) menu.  What options do you have there?

Robert
When I am in the Chart/Side Combo view and hit menu once, I get these options:
- Cursor to Waypoint
- Save Current Track
- Clear Current Track
- SI Side     Both
- SI Sensitivity

You cannot mark waypoints in the SI portion of the Si/Chart split screen view.  You will have to go to the full Si sonar view to mark waypoints.

Not good.  ::) Is there some good reason why they left this feature off this model? It sure would make it easier to run a search pattern and mark structure without flipping back and forth between views. Add xpress menu item "Active side" top/bottom to a future software update PLEASE!!!

I don’t know why this was not added to the unit.  They may not be able to do so for some technological reason though I don’t know enough to know what those reasons would be.
