Title: Does Autochart disk need to be in drive to use after installation?
Post by: mike82 on September 05, 2014, 03:51:14 PM
I am looking to buy autochart pro and just have a few questions. Does the disk need to be in the disk drive after the initial install to use the software? Or after you install and register can you take the disk out and use the software? The reason I ask is im looking to buy a 10in 2in1 laptop to mount on my boat and link it to my unit so I can use the autochart live feature. You have to use a external disk drives for them, so I figured if all I have to do is install it then I could just borrow my dads drive to do that.

It will also work slick to be able to view and use the bottom harness map while im out on the water.

you can take the disk out and use it. For live mapping you will need a cable which plugs into your Ethernet port on your laptop then plugs into your head unit. You then put your zero line card that comes with autochart into  a card slot on your laptop or you can get a flash card read/write usb adaptor and use it if your laptop don't have a card reader. I prefer live mapping since i can map and then see it on my laptop before i leave the water. if you haven't already done so you can download the autochart manuals from Humminbirds web site.
