TM Interference Fix
« on: October 22, 2011, 08:23:50 PM »
I have a MG Foretrex 101 36V, and a HB 998 SI transducer mounted to the TM with a transducer shield and saver. I am getting TM interferance at all speeds except the highest speed. I have checked all connections, US2 connections, battery grounds, and the fuse in the TM. All are good.
Has anyone used the TM interferance kit from Humminbird? If so does it work?
Or does anyone who has had this issue with their Fortrex have an alernate solution.

You say you have a 36 volt motor?
If you have 3, 12-volt batteries and the HB 998 is connected to
one of them, that is most likely your problem.

If possible, get a small dedicated battery for your HB 998.
It doesn't have to be a big battery.
Run the sonar wires out of the way of other electronic devices.
If the wires get really close to each other, then cross them at
right angles (like a cross).

Good luck.

I had the same exact problem with fortrex 24 volt the HB interference kit helped with down imaging but not side imaging, MinnKota even had a warranty center put in an internal ground like there is with universal sonar unit that did not help, finally I talked to an engineer at MinnKota and he sent me the main circuit board that goes in the foot pedeal of the trolling motor, that took all the interfence out works great now. If you take your transducer loose from bottom of trolling motor and move it back to say around boat console then turn on trolling motor and you still have interfence that circuit board is most likely your problem.  Minn Kota said that it is not a common problem. If your interfence clears up when you move transducer away from tm lower unit then the interfence kit from humminbird or the internal ground wil probably be the right solution.
