I haven't seen any mention of the activation of head-to-head sonar networking in the discussions around 5.210 sw update. If that is correct, should we expect to see another update in the next few weeks that will allow me to link a 998c and new 798 si hd? I'm holding off on a purchase assuming I'll be able to leverage that functionality.

The 5.210 update does not unlock the Ethernet capability even though there are some "tracks" that they are prepping for it. There are menu options for entering in IP address.
They don't yet have the 5.210 implemented for all units yet.....I am still wating for it for my 1197.
Anyone who knows the realease schedule is unable to divulge the information.
My personal opinion on this is that getting to the ethernet version of the software is a 2 step process. Once 5.210 is fully implemented for all products and any "bugs" are exposed, these "bugs" will be fixed and the ethernet functionality released in the next update. I think they are doing this as rapidly as possible since they are already advertising the functionality and selling ethernet cables.
Should be a done deal before spring is in full swing.

Dhartman: Have you since successfully networked a second unit. I would like to do the same, but have only just added my HB 898. I forsee an 798 up front to share my GPS spots with.

Wow, this is a old thread dug up. Well over a year and half. 898/798 Ethernet up just fine these days with the current updates that are out there.
