Post by: duckhunter2984 on February 25, 2013, 10:21:58 PM
Hey folks, I have a Skeeter sx170 w a 90 hp Yamaha four stroke motor, Im really wanting to get a si unit for my boat  and when I went to the Skeeter dealer today the guy told me that side imaging will not work on my boat wo a jackplate which Skeeter doesnt recccomend. I need some advice on this, will the transducer work wo a jackplate? Thanks for the advice.

The guy that could probably tell you for sure is Doug Vahrenberg but he is normally on another posting board.  Try looking for this on the Bass Boat Central – Humminbird Sonar/GPS posting board.  In fact they have a thread on installation that may contain the answer for you:

I'm curious.
I thought that jackplates could be beneficial to
all boats, because  it allows you to raise and lower
the motor so that the prop is the perfect height
in the water.  You can reduce drag, and sometimes
increase engine RPM.  Supposedly, it can make a
pretty good difference in top speed.

Why is a Skeeter boat any different than all the rest?

I'm guessing not all sterns are designed for the additional stress of hanging a heavy motor another 6-10 inches out in space, I can see how that could really put extra strain.....
