Title: Helix networking help needed: Helix 12 Si Gen1 and Helix 9 Si Mega G2N
Post by: mako9man2 on May 27, 2018, 09:43:37 AM
I am contemplating adding a Helix 9 Si Mega G2N to the bow and think I want to connect it to my existing Helix 12 Si chirp gen1.
Rather than ask a bunch of questions and waste your time is there some definitive source I can reference to determine exactly what equipment/cables I will need AND exactly what data can be shared between these units?

I have searched this and other forums but I am just getting pieces of information.  I have scoured the HB site but again its unclear exactly what benefits I can derive from networking the two units.

What I think I know:
1. Lakemaster maps will not be shared.  Requires a separate card in each unit.
2. I believe all I need is the Ethernet cable (1) and 2 AS EC QDE adapters.
3. I should be able to share the 2D Chirp sonar between units.
4. I don't believe the Chirp DI/SI info from the Helix 9 G2N will be displayed on the older Helix 12 si gen1

Please school me.

Thank you Rickie.
It appears to me that the only potential benefit would be the sharing of WayPoints and I could accomplish that by simply exporting the WayPoints to my SD card and just loading them on the other unit.
If the MEGA DI set to 455 or 800 gives a substantially better image than the stock transducer on the Helix 12Si that might be a consideration.

If networked, what would appear on the Helix 12Si screen if I was in MEGA Di/Si or MEGA Chirp Di/Si?

In the HELIX G1 networking Menu under the imaging tab - there will only be the option of 455/800kHz imaging from the HELIX G2N  ...

And I'm pretty sure that CHIRP imaging must be shut off in the G2N before there will be any imaging option in the G1 networking menu (from the G2N)  ...
