noob question: 898c HD si Combo vs. 898c si Combo
« on: March 31, 2013, 02:10:52 PM »

Please forgive the noob question, but I'm having trouble deciphering Humminbird's model naming scheme.

Can someone summarize the difference between these two models?  Which one is newer?

If I'm not mistaken, the "898c si combo" has an internal GPS, and the "898c HD si combo" has an external GPS that must be purchased separately(?)

As far as the "HD" label this makes no sense, as both units have the same resolution(?)

Does one or the other have LED backlight?

THX!

Thanks for the reply!

So with the HD unit I would need to also purchase the gps antenna separately, correct?

I just have an 14' open, v-bottom fishing boat.  I don't need the external gps antenna, but on the other hand the LED backlight would be nice to have...

No extra purchase.  It is external antenna only and it comes with the unit.  Unit, transducer, wiring, mounts, GPS antenna, etc.  All in the box.  Everything except a inline fuse is in the box.

The only difference between the 898c Si Combo and the 898c HD Si Combo model units is that the newer "HD" version comes with an LED type backlit display.  There are no other operational differences.

That's where I'm planning on purchasing mine!   ;)

Did you notice they have the HD and the non-HD models for the same price?
