Title: Heading Sensor?
Post by: sonarbear on May 08, 2016, 08:23:41 AM
Hi

is there a way to add a non - Humminbird heading sensor / compass to the 898 unit? I currently have the regular GPS puck, but would like a dedicated heading sensor for Sidescan mosaics...
Would a regular 0183 compass suffice? Is there such a thing?

I have read of users connecting a non-Humminbird GPS Antenna to the unit ..but I'm not sure about heading information ...

HB can answer that for certain ...

The interface for the GPS is NMEA 0183, isn't it? So then, if one can add a second device for NMEA Input, it should work, I guess. I have the Y-cable for the GPS puck, which provides 4 pins, which I suspect are 12 V, GND, NMEAN in and NMEA out. It's from the original bus connector, basically the two voltage pins and the two pins in the middle... Is there a pinout for the second plug on the Y-cable?
