Title: Info for SI
Post by: Doug Johnston on November 12, 2013, 01:48:39 PM
Questions:
I am having problem finding small limb brush piles:
1. I have better luck to the side with "blue" if I keep sensitivity turn down so I can see the shadows, but if I go over the top of them I do not see them in the water column. If I use "amber" I see them in the column but have problem to the side.  I can go "blue" SI, "amber" DI, and it works pretty good. But if I want to follow a contour line then I have to give up DI or SI. Any suggestions?
2. How wide is the water column in SI. i.e. 1X water depth.
3. Is SI lines calculated from below transducer ... then horizontally over bottom to line (40'). Or from transducer to target.
4. If I turn "contour" ON ... does the center on screen start from straight down under the transducer?

I also have problems getting back or brush I have "mark" I have moved my GPS receiver to over my trolling motor and that has helped some, but it still takes me to long to find them .... One problem is the "donut hole"  The Lowrance boys tell me they don't have any problem.  ANY one have suggestions.

2. The water column will be 1X the water depth on each side.  So at 20 feet deep there will be a 40 foot wide water column area (20 feet on each side).
3. Si sonar, as all sonar, displays the distance from the transducer to the target.
4. Yes.  With the Contour menu set to “ON” the Si data starts from straight under the boat or what the unit would normally display as the edge of the bottom.

The unit will display a circle icon whenever the GPS Receiver cannot reliably calculate the boats heading.  Below these speeds we would be guessing unless the unit had a compass.  The GPS-HS GPS Receiver has just that and will always display the heading of the boat whether moving or not.

Greg, thanks for the reply.
Two question,
1. The new GPS-HS GPS Receiver, I think requires a newer software version than my 6.49 ver.  .... which I have been told doesn't have as good of SI, DI, clarity. Is this true?
2.  I am having a hard time understanding how the GPS with compass is going to help me locate a waypoint at speeds lower that .8mph. I don't mind purchasing it, if it well help. Would you explain!

Some get as good or better Si/Di sonar with the newer software and some don’t.  I have not heard yet why that is.
