Help with GPS NMEA Connectivity 363 to 595c
« on: April 29, 2014, 06:00:03 PM »
Hi all new guy here. Great site full of useful information.

I have a 363 and a 595c in which I want to take the NMEA output from the 363 (internal GPS) and send it to the 595c.

I have hooked up the AS SYSLINK cable (both ways) from the original 595c external GPS receiver (receiver is broken) but the 595c doesn’t see the GPS signal. I am assuming that the wiring in the harness is not setup for what I am trying to do.

Is there a way to accomplish what I am after by splicing/reworking the existing cable?

Is there a  another cable that will do this? I see there is a cable for hooking up an external GPS unit (AS HHGPS) but not sure what that will get me.

I also have the serial port connector (AS PC2) that I can cannibalize.

Thank you for your time

You will have to sacrifice your AS-SysLink cable to get this to work NJsquatch.  I replied to your e-mail on what you need to connect.

Greg you are the man! Thanks for the response.

For everyone else here is Greg's response. I will wire it up and let you know how I make out.

The AS-SysLink cable is not set up to share the internal GPS from one unit to another, it was only set up for sharing an external GPS.  Normally you should use a pair of AS-HHGPS cables but since you have an AS-SysLink cable you can accomplish the same thing.  The SysLink cable has three connectors on it, you will need the two male connectors.  Be sure to cut them off so that you will have enough wire to make the required splices and to have enough cable to run between the units.  Please refer to the attached image which is of the cable connectors (end view) and make the following connections.

Primary Unit Connector (363) To Secondary Unit Connector (595c)

Pin 2 - Bare Drain Wire (NMEA Ground) Connect To Pin 2 Bare Drain Wire (NMEA Ground)

Pin 6 - White Wire(NMEA Output) Connect To Pin 5 - Green Wire (NMEA Input)

Be sure to set the NMEA Output menu in the 363 unit to “On”.

I rewired the Syslink cable per Greg's instructions and it works like a charm!

Thanks Greg!
