Title: 1197 update lock up
Post by: mtbasser on May 03, 2012, 11:29:14 AM: Hey guys went to update my 1197 to the newest version and something went wrong,
its was uploading and shut down.
Now when I turn it on it blinks the control buttons, hit the power button a few
more times, it comes ON but stays frozen in the LOADING page and will not
continue to turn on.
I was updating it to match my new 1198 i got today, I am putting the 1197 at
the bow, I have it fully rigged out with the new AS EC 20E Ethernet cable (unit
to unit) all was working well, all but it wouldn't share GPS waypoints with the
1198, the 1197 has all my waypionts.
So I thought I would up date it to see if that would work and now I'm worried,I
need to be pre-fishhing Friday, of course that's how its works.

You can try loading an older version software update into you 1197 unit. Make sure that the unit is not connected to anything else besides its own power, transducer and GPS Receiver (no other unit or accessory) when you try updating it. Also make sure that there is only one software version on the memory card when you update it.

If you have a set of the PC Connect cables you can also try the “bootstrap method”. Try using the Search function to look for it on this web site.

When I power the unit it just stays on the LOADING page . It only connected to a power source nothing else.

If so, than your only chances are to use the Bootstrap method or call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks and talk to them about getting your unit shipped in to be reprogrammed.

Try to press together Power+View. Get the diagnostic menu. Connect to the computer using a cable AS PC2.
Open the program HumminbirdPC. Do the firmware update.

AS PC3. You can order from Humminbird..
The PC program you can download from them..
Or from this site under downloads...
It wont work on the new 98 sereies units..

a programming message appears then after a minute or so a message Failure appears press Exit for Menu
I have tried with a SD card with earlier programs, with and with out the connection to a pc
I did on one occasion get a message...success and a green line which went half way across the screen, nothing else happend

Did you get it back?
Did they charge you for a repair.
