Can't find side imaging setting - 798ci HD SI
« on: December 29, 2013, 07:31:32 PM »
I have difficulty finding the side imaging and how to change the setting. Humminbird emailed me...
"You have to be in the side imaging views to access the Side Imaging X-Press menu. If you are in any side imaging views, press the Menu key once, and you will get the Side Imaging X-press menu."

DUH! That's the problem. Where is the side imaging under the sonor menu?

I'm reasonably intelligent but electronics are not my cup of tea.   :(

In the upper right corner of your unit is the View button. Pressing this will cycle you through the views that are set to display.
Some are not displayed by default. To change this..... press the Menu button twice (to main menu), tab over to Views, down through the different choices.
Set any you want to Visible. At least this is the way it works on the 998.

The 798 can only operate the SI in the 455kHz frequency...therefore there is no setting to change in the Main tabbed menu or in the Xpress menu...

There is a Sensitivity setting for the 455kHz both in the Main tabbed menu under the Sonar tab...and in the SI Xpress menu...

i don;t  seea 455 khZ setting, but do have a 200 and 83 khz. I can select both or either one seperately.  I'm headed out to a local pond shortly and will play with  it. Have been setting is at 83/200 rather than a single setting.

I don’t know how many buttons you have been pressing on your 798ci HD Si unit, so the best place to start would be with resetting the unit back to the original factory defaults.  To do this, press the MENU button twice and scroll over to the “Setup” menu tab.  Scroll down this menu tab until you come to the “Restore Defaults” menu.  Use the Right Arrow button to reset the menu settings in your 798ci HD Si unit.  Then use the VIEW button to scroll through all of the available Views.  One of these should be the full screen Si sonar View.  Let us know if you are or are not seeing the full screen Si Sonar View.

Thanks to Greg and all of you for our help.  I did the reset to factory default and was able to work through the menu and do the adjustments to "view" and side imaging.  I think I had so many entries the system was as confused as I was.  Back to default and a fresh start seems to have solved the problem. Will play with this for a few days and see how it goes. Thanks again to all.
