1197 interlinked with a 788 ci.
« on: May 02, 2010, 08:56:55 PM »
I have the choke plugged into the 1197 then to the Y with the GPS on the nema and the 20' comm to the comm. I was told I would notice the 4 times faster GPS but didn't really see the change. I think I will take my tools out this week and try to change the Y to plug in directly to the 1197 and see if I notice a change and use the choke just for the comm.
Also had a couple of lock ups 3 to be exact one while pushing menu changes and 2 others just when trolling along. Had to unplug the unit all 3 timeds to get out of it. What if any are the problems that may be lurking with the newest  down load.
Also I have a constant double line just to the right of the white boat trail on side imaging about 11/4 of the way down that runs constant almost like there is something reflecting the signal back.
Had a hard time deciding how to set up the unit for the best down images and side imaging.

Can you post a picture of the lines.    Can you post a picture of the transducer mounting location and the motor.  if transom mounted.
Setting in the unit are best guess and then trial and change.
Chart speed: matches boat speed
Sensitivity: your call
Side to side distance: 2 to 3 times the depth.
Depth: auto
Also go thru the menu and "hide" screens you are not using. Remember to also set the advanced mode.
This should be a good start.

Frisco,
The order of the cables being plugged in should not alter the GPS refresh rate.  If you are running the latest software version than you are getting the faster GPS refresh rate but not everyone will notice it.  Normally we only heard from those that needed low speed GPS information that it was a problem to begin with, so they are predominantly the ones who have noticed the change.

Sounds like you are getting some type of sonar return (blockage) to the right of your transducer.  Take some pictures like Chuck said and post them here.  Make sure you take one from the left side of the transom looking across the transducer and at the same height as the transducer.  Also, see if the line stays there when the boat is drifting or not.
