Topic: SD or SD micro whats the difference??

Ok. disappointed with the contour XD software that came with the 798HD I just bought, doesn't show hardly any detail, or just a rough outline of the lake I'm on.The ads, and product features it showed on the webiste and the places I looked/played with them. I thought there was a lot more details in the simulator modes I played with, seems selective on what lake has details, and what lake doesn't. Anyway, I'm looking to go to navionics charts, what size card should it be?? everything I see says MSD, not just plain ole' SD. I've looked in the card slots they're the size of a regular SD card. Am I missing something here?? thanks to anybody who sets me straight. Jim.

Yes....just the SD.  That is what fits in the unit.  Navionics has those and call customer service ther efor any questions making sure you get what you need.  Thnx for selecting Humminbird and navionics.......

SD is the fullsize card. Micro SD is the smaller version but usually comes with the fullsize adapter just incase. Just about the only things that use the actual micro size are phones and tablets.

You need to understand that the unit comes with a base map.
It's not going to show high detail for all waters.
Maybe some of the more popular waters will have more detail.

Same thing with NAVIONICS chips.  Some lakes have super high
detail (1 foot contour lines), while others do not.

I know for NAVIONICS, they only add additional waters if they are
asked.  And, it probably takes multiple people to ask before they even
consider adding a new water.

I would recommend that before you buy a map chip, research what lakes/waters
have high detail before you buy.  Don't assume just because it's a map chip
that your favorite lakes will be in high detail.

These map chips are not cheap.

thanks ITGEEK. I understand that. I've owned Garmins and Lowrances before, those units came with no pre-installed mapping as this was at least 5-10 years ago, had to buy mapping software for all of those units. So yes, its a good thing most companies offer something. I wasn't expecting a full 3D map of my favorite lakes, but some of the bigger lakes here in MIssouri (I.E. Table Rock Lake) have no  detail at all. So that's kinda why I was a little disappointed. I did end up buying a Lakemaster chip. I'm in the St louis area, and I fish over in Illinois A LOT when I don't have a major tournament. I just was hoping for some depth contours and pocket/cove names. But we'll see what this Lakemaster card does. Looks a little nicer than the basic Navionics chips. thanks again. Jim.
