800 series with Navioncs Platinum card
« on: November 18, 2010, 05:26:28 AM »
Recently bought a 800 series and was wanting to also purchase a Navionic Platinum card. After numerous emails with Humminbird (USA) I was assured that I would get full functionality with the exception of Turboview. After visiting my local boat store and Navionics (Sydney, Australia) I learnt that this was not exactually correct. I did get most functions 3D etc but the satellite overlay did not cover the full map and did not display a google earth image as I've seen on other manufactures units. Previous to this I did the latest software upgrade and on the description it says" Fixes operational issues with Navionics Platinum cards". What did this fix ? Any expertise on this would be greatly apprecited. After all this I ended up buying a Gold card

Stumpy,
I do not what all was covered under the “Fixes operational issues with Navionics Platinum cards” update as the Engineering staff does not always let us know the details of these and other software updates.

Hi Greg, No worries with that, but are the 800 series meant to fully support the Platinum cards? Especially the satellite overlay on the 3D?

I thought that they could Stumpy but cannot find anyone on a Friday afternoon who can confirm this for me.  I shot off a few e-mails so hopefully someone will respond quickly.

Mark,
Okay, this is what I found out:
Here is the States most of the satellite overlay information is on the Marine Charts and not on the Inland lake mapping cards.  I don’t know how this works out in Australia but I would confirm that there is satellite overlay data on the map card you are using and that it is in the area you are looking in.
For the satellite overlay to show up a Tech here told me that you should set the Overlay Transparency menu all the way down to 0 (zero).  Be sure that you are using the Chart View.  Set the Platinum setting on Land and Water.

Try that and see what you get.

Thanks Greg, In Oz as far as I know the maps only cover coastal areas to about 10 kilometres inland. I don't think we have Lake maps as yet. My only problem is I have purchased the Gold Map of the full coastal area of Australia, but I do have a good contact at my local boat store so if I ask nicely I may be able to take my unit down and try your suggestions from the technical department. If this works I may have to upgrade to the Platinum. Will let you know how I end up. Cheers Mark
