Posting within a topic.

this froum is a great information box. Those who ask and those who reply are what is the glue to the success of the forum. Something that might help those who are looking for information and the moderators (who read every thing)  is to look at the topic subject when posting.  If the post is on a different matter see if you can start a new topic subject.
For example if the subject is how to paint your boat and you have replied with "use good paint  but I have another question, How do I get more depth from my transducer" takes the rest of the replies into two different directions.
I dont see this very often on this forum but on occasion it does happen and the original topic gets lost. sometimes making for a length topic.
What do you think or am I off base.

I may be a newbie here but I totally agree....

Some questions asked are easily lost in the mix when they stray off the posted thread topic....

Also, I always try to give a brief but descriptive subject title to my posts so I can easily go back and find them later.....

It's difficult to remember what's actually in a thread titled...."Question"

I agree.  Some of us don’t always have enough time to look at all the replies in every post.  So if I see a topic with a title that does not apply to my specialty or something that I am interested in; I’ll skip right over it (this one interested me!).  If there is more than one main topic in a post the answers get quite lost and harder to search for later on.

This happens on almost every forum I have been to. Its the moderators job to get the thread back on topic or shut it down. About the only time it should ever be shut down is if someone has broken all the rules or starts trouble with another member.

I would think that if it can be caught soon enough we could steer it back to the origonal post. If not ask the origonal poster to delete his thread and start a new one?
Freedom isnt free, if you want to know the real cost visit a national cemetery or VA Hospital.
