Title: AS-WX1 module
Post by: fast talker on May 25, 2013, 10:22:12 AM
Will the AS-WX1 reciever module work in the new 998c si HD units?
I cannot find any info showing that they support the reciever.
Thanks for any help.

No, the WX1 XM Nav Weather accessory will not work with the 998c HD Si unit.

EDIT: Since posting this i have found out that we do still support the usage of the WX-1 Nav Weather module in our products which should include the 998c HD Si units.

Thank you for the response. I was afraid of that.

Anyone looking to buy a brand new, in the original packaging AS-WX1 module?

Greg,
In the past, the AS-WX1 worked with the 700, 900, and 1100 series.(see below
link);

I'm curious to why it won't work with a new 998.
I have it on my 1197.
Is Humminbird going to remove this from newer software
updates?

I had several people tell me that the new 998's would work with the AS-WX1. That is why I bought it last year when I saw one for sale while I waited for the new 998c HD SI models to come on the market. Sometimes you win; sometimes not, I guess.

I wouldn't sell it until Greg can verify.
I couldn't find any information on the Humminbird site about
the xm weather module, since they don't sell it anymore.

Okay, I checked and I was wrong: we still support the usage of the WX-1 XM Weather module.  I had thought that it was no longer supported through software but it seems I was incorrect about this.

I will go back and add a note to my answer above.

Greg; thank you for going to the trouble of finding out the info.
Now I have to figure out how and where to connect it to my console unit.

fast talker:
It was a real bitch to get the XM weather working.
You want to call Sirius and tell them you want the Skywatch
subscription package.  It's $9.95 a month, with I think a start-up
fee of $19.95.
The xm id should be on your module.
It took about a week and a half for it to finally work.
Numerous calls (maybe 10), to what I think is customer service in India.
The first two people I talked to, had never heard of Skywatch.
Also, periodically, it will go down.  Then, you have to go to the
sirius website and send a radio activation signal to your module.
It's easy to do.  Once it worked, it was cool.  I really like it.

Here's a write-up of Skywatch:
SkyWatch downloads updated weather data every 90 seconds
to keep you well informed. Value-priced at just $9.95
per month, SkyWatch data products now include: National
Weather Service watches and warnings, radar coverage
and summary, city forecasts, shear threat and forecast,
hail threat and forecast, fog/restricted visibility,
precipitation, dangerous wind threat, current lightning
summary, sky conditions, surface observations and
detailed 30-minute forecasts. Know you and your
crew are secure and safe with SkyWatch.

ITGEEK;
Thank you for that information. Once I have evrything installed; I will call to activate. I am looking forward to utilizing all these functions. The 998c HD SI units will be a big step up from my old Lowrance 520C units that I have been using.
I started the install last night on my Skeeter 20i by taking all the batteries , etc. out of the boat bilge areas. Tonight; we will start running wiring, mounting RAM mounts, installing tranducer and GPS module. It is an experience as I have always had someone else do my installs on all my other boats.
Thanks to all who have been so helpful on here. I am sure I wil be posting the need for more instruction before all is said and done...LOL.
