bad software????
« on: November 15, 2015, 12:05:15 PM »
on my 999 I currently have the latest software 7.650, which came on the unit. Well my Fish Id does not show any of the fish Icons, even when they are turned on. The jigging mode also doubles the depth of water that I am in. I was advised that I should download the previous, software and load that on to the unit, then go back and reload the 7.650???? Do yall think that would work?

If so where can I get the previous software.

Thank,
Tim

Hey Tim ... I've been following your questions on bbc ...

As bobcoy mentions ... It's not recommended to load older software than came on the unit ... Some have done it with success but it was needed for a more serious issue than Fish ID (and they felt it was worth the risk of bricking the unit) ...

Is it possible that maybe you haven't actually been over any fish that were large enough for the Fish ID to assign any fish symbols to ... ??

As Wayne mentioned at bbc ... A Fish ID symbol would only be assigned to fish larger than 1lb ...

You can test this with an empty water bottle or tennis ball weighted enough to get the faux "air bladder" into the 2d sonar cone ...
-----
-----
Also when you say "jigging mode doubles the depth I'm in" ...

Does this mean you are seeing a double bottom echo ... Or is the digital depth number doubling with Jigging Mode on ... ??

A double bottom echo can be a normal observation if the bottom composition is very hard ...causing the sound pulse to reflect off the bottom with enough return strength to reflect off the water's surface and make another round trip to the bottom and back to the xducer ...

If you feel that none of the scenarios might fit your issue (here or at bbc) ...I would also recommend calling HB ... Especially before trying to load an older version of software than came on the unit ...

The comparison shots posted when jigging mode was first released showed that the 2D was "hotter" when jigging mode is turned on.......(greater sensitivity)

Rickie is probably correct that you are over a hard bottom .......You probably  just need to turn down the sensitivity when jigging mode is on....and try turning up the sensitivity on fish ID.
**Looking for the one that makes it all worthwhile**

The depth issues were resolved. My Garmin up front was cross talking.

As far as the fish ID the issue is still there. Iv narrowed it down to its how I did the installation.

Even though I mounted it were the Lowrance was im thinking the HB doesnt like that spot  for what ever reason.

I removed the transducer, which came up very easy and the old epoxy chipped right off which also leads me believe That i did not install the righ way.

The lowrance was a SOB to get up. . Anyways ima test the new location next week. I think the best spot is gona be closer to the center and futher back where the bottom of the pad is smooth. Where it was reading was really close to a strake. (Im surprised the lowrance worked there.)

Can i temp mout the ducer with plumbers putty. My bilge doesn't like anywater in there. The auto bilge always kicks on.

You should lay the xducer in the desired spot and weight it down with a sand bag or similar ...

Then build a dam around the xducer with plumbers putty to immerse the xducer in water ...

Using plumbers putty between the xducer and the hull could potentially absorb some of the sound pulse before it even gets to the water ...

Put plumbers putty around the transducer before I attached it for testing? Does that just help keep the water around the transducer?

I talked to Triton and they said the spot where the factory transducer was mounted easy spot designated for the transducer. So I applied some heat from a heat gun to the factory epoxy and scraped it off with a floor scraper with a fresh razor blade when you came off pretty easily considering. So I'm going to try there first and just go from there.

Yes the plumbers putty is just for holding water around the xducer (so you wouldn't have to disable the bilge pump) ...

Disabling the bilge pump and pouring water in is easier... if the bilge is hard to get to for building a dam of plumbers putty ...

Weight the xducer down with a double ziplock bag of dry rice ...
