Title: Greg ~Can HB AS SYSLINK System Link cable share newer HS GPS with a 798ci SI ??
Post by: sfw1960 on October 30, 2014, 10:23:10 PM
I currently have the GRP puck on my 798 ci SI and v6.3 was the last release for it - the PDF "manual" mentions NMEA0183, which I know you know a bit about.
;)
My question is - if I were to get the Humminbird AS SYSLINK System Link cable and plug in the 798ci SI as the secondary unit, can it read GPS position data from the HS puck which requires a higher software version than was last written for the 798 ci SI??
I would be using the 998s HD SI  as the primary and I also have that HS puck Ethernet connected to my 899ci HD SI.
It's not a deal breaker - but for $39 if I could get the super slow motion accuracy I want this time of year for ultra slow walleye trolling in the cold waters of Michigan, on all 3 machines, I may want to do it!!!

TY Sir!!
As always,
Best!
Robert

I don’t know of anyone who has tried it Robert but I don’t think that it will work or at least work as you want it to.  The Heading Sensor function is what you are wanting to have work and the 798ci Si does not have the software to support it.

Thanks Mr. W.....
I was figuring it wouldn't and Douglas V. concurred - but thought you would be the BEST man around to know.
I already figured the compass function wouldn't apply - but didn't know if the secondary GPS output was not software version sensitive.
I could gamble the $39, but I already have the speed readout on 2 head units off the HS - and the speed below 1 MPH was what I was looking for. The GRP will suffice!

Again ~
Best & thank you for all your help - past, present & future!
