Ethernet problem
« on: March 19, 2015, 11:34:21 AM »
On the bow of my boat I have a 999 and a 360 imager. I am in the process of installing another 999 on the console. I want to tie the two 999's together with an ethernet cable. Only problem is, the bow 999 ethernet slot is taken. Do I need some kind of splitter cable to do this?

No, you need an AS-ETH-5PXG 5-Port Ethernet Switch.  You will also need one AS-EC-QDE Ethernet Adapter Cable and two AS-EC-XXE cables in the appropriate length as these connect between the 999 units and the 5-Port Ethernet Switch.  Those AS-EC-XXE cables come in different lenghts and the length is in the part name.  So drop the "XX" and insert the cable length (2,  10,  15,  20 and 30-footers), so a 15 foot cable is an AS-EC-15E and a 20 foot cable is an AS-EC-20E.

Thanks for the reply. Considering the cost, I will probably let them operate individually. IF they shared map info, then it would be a must. But just for sharing waypoints, I can live without them being tied together. Now, I have some cables I will have to sell.

Sorry but no map sharing with the 999 units.
Thoughtfully, Robert (the owner/admin) included a Classified Ads section to the web site: http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?board=37.0

If you only need a few maps, you may want to look at the ChartSelect maps on the Humminbird web site.  If they have the ones you need you only buy those, not a bunch you don't need.  New maps will be added as they get completed, so check back often.

I already bought two adapter cables and a 15' cable, which I plan on selling. I plan on just running them as individual units. As for the lake chips, I counted lakes. I would need two chips to start, and on each chip I would probably put 8 or 9 lakes. I figure it would be easier to just add a few bucks and buy the chips for the whole state.

Besides just the way point sharing, I really like the ability to pick and choose where the data is coming from and going to! Using one machine as master & sending different sonar data to any display is way cool.

Having SI on both ends of the boat can help you stay on a steep break between watching the bow's digital depth and the SI signals you can try to anticipate the changes - though a LakeMaster card sh0' do helpzz!...LOL
