Humminbird 999(serial 1503****) Anything issues I should expect?
« on: February 03, 2016, 02:28:36 PM »
Hi All,

I bought a new Hummingbird 999 KVD SI. I am not networking it, it is going to be at console. Basically I'm going to install it, use a map card with it and fish... I have read some pretty scary things about issues these units have. I have called Humminbird and they told me based on my serial # that i won't have the 800khz washout issue. Outside of that, what should i expect to simply use it for what it does, no networking, no linking with other units. No I-pilot.

Your input is greatly appreciated. My boat is a 2000 Trition TR186. the only other unit will be the factory dash Lowrance, which i might use only to gage depth at WOT, or just leave off at all times to reduce interference.

Thanks,
Bm

If you don't have the 800Khz issue, you should be good to go ..... Maybe call customer service and push for the fix the Helix models have for the data boxes.

Try to mount your transducer where you have clean flow across it.

Thanks Bob, one more quick question. I have been reading about screens burning out or getting hot... Any suggestions on how to not have this happen. I will probably use the unit less then 8-10 times a season...

Thanks, and happy fishing.

I haven't read of this issue either (in HB's anyway)...and I'm on a lot of electronics forums ...

I don't expect you should see this issue ...

Thanks for the heads up. If you go to the link i added you will see where i got my concerns... I am almost positive my software is currently 7.460  With that said, anyone hear of anything similar to this happening. I am having my graph professorially installed so any tips i can give them from people here would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting thread. I purchased a 999 in December but didn't know about the 800khz washout issue. Is there a serial number range that this affects?  Where can I find out if my unit is affected without calling HB?  I only used the 800khz once or twice the last time I as on the water and it was very bright. Thought I had some settings wrong.  Thanks.

There are a few post about the washout exchange. Maybe on page 2 or 3... I forget the date range, but if you call, they are top-notch at CS. Good luck.
