San Disk or other SDHC card
« on: April 12, 2012, 07:49:05 PM »
Is it best to use a San Disk SDHC card or can you use other ones like a PNY class 10  with 20 MB/S transfer rate. It will be in a 1198c SI unit. On the forums I hear about San Disk all the time but not other brands.

Not to disparage any company but I prefer the sandisk. I cant qualify that except to say that in all our applications the sandisk has performed.

agree with sonar on the sandisk, we use a lot here at my company to interface with  microcontroller's to store data and they have performed well.

Is there a particular version of the san disk that is better than the others. Even other san disk versions.

business class versions are the best but unnecessary for what you are doing. Nonetheless just buy one at your local store and you will be fine.

The whole deal with the SanDisk brand memory cards is that they follow the guidelines set up by the SD Association (they are a founding member).  So if you are designing a product to use SD cards what criteria would you go by?  Hopefully those set by an international organization such as the SD Association…

It may be.  I would expect that if you can write and read image files (save and view Screen Snapshots) to/from the memory card that it will work for sonar recordings as well.

Yes, the PNY works as well as the sandisk. the only difference may be when you get to the new typing of the cards and large card sizes.

We have had reports of the PNY SD and SDHC memory cards both working and not working.  I don’t know if this is tied to a specific memory card type, size, speed or even production date.  So it is hard to say that all will or will not work.  Since you have the memory card you can try it without causing any harm.

On the other hand these are not expensive so shop the sales and see who works and who doesnt.

both short term and long term...

What works for one application may not work for another but in the end each will have a use, so your money is not wasted..
SD cards are for many applications..
