Title: Deep water capability
Post by: JoeyWelch on June 28, 2015, 11:32:11 AM
Hello all.

Bought  a new boat so I have to have new electronics also.  Sold my 899 with my last boat. I want the 1199ci HD SI Combo with the standard ducer for my shallow water use  because I need the side imaging.  I also need to be able to see fish at 900'. So, what do I need for a secondary transducer? I want the 260 ducer but would like a Transom Mount instead of the B260.  Is it possible to get the TM260? I've owned the TM260 with Furuno units and loved it. It would be a nice addition to the Humminbird line.

What are my options?

That transducer may work with your unit, providing you have the proper Humminbird connector, but others have tried to use Humminbird units for deep water, and were not happy with the results.
No matter what the specs say for Humminbird units, they are still designed for shallow water Bass fishing.
I would look to Furuno for deep water use.
Search this site for older posts about deep water use.

Is the machine a true 1000 watt unit with the 1000w transducer?

Any of the humminbird Rep's care to offer any info?

I have read several of the deepwater post but I can't help but wonder if the problem was something other than the machine. 900' is not really that deep for a 1000watt unit.

Anyone else have any input?

To the average fisherman, 900' is an extreme depth.
Most fishing reels don't even hold 300 yards of line.

I believe I have talked myself out of buying another Humminbird. Think I will be going with the Garmin 7608vsx. It has a lot of features that should make it a Badass unit.
