Got my unit back from repair
« on: March 10, 2010, 12:06:57 PM »
Like above states i got my 798ci back from service. they fixed the issue it was having but i did notice that the cover that goes over the screen isnt tight as it was before sending it in. There is a little gap between the main body and the front cover that goes over the screen and has movement like when u push in on it. Is this going to be a leaking problem in the future?

That’s a snap on bezel and the arrow is pointing to where it meets the sealed front housing of the unit.  We try and use common parts to keep costs down and to allow for more efficient manufacturing.  The unit is not sealed by this bezel.  In fact you can take it off and see the sealed lens and keypad.  This should not be an area of concern.

The one thing you can take to the bank is that HB has the best customer service in the industry and if you have any concerns ask them about it.  If everything is operating correctly I would make note of your issues and use it.  If something does happen let  HB know they will make it right.

I had to send my brand new unit back because of a cracked bezel in shipping....

I put a note inside the box asking HB to "Please fix and return same unit if at all possible because I went to great extremes to order and receive a 2010 model unit"....

HB did indeed send the same unit back to me...fixed of course.....

George,
We typically fix and ship back the unit that is sent in to our Service Center folks.  If we cannot fix the unit we will replace it but we try to avoid this so you get back your unit that you sent in.  We’ve done this for the 25+ years I’ve been here and thought all sonar manufacturers did the same.

FYI: If you send your unit in with waypoints, tracks and routes and we have to swap out the unit, PCB or memory device: we will try and copy the Nav information over to the new unit, PCB or memory device so you don’t loose any of your precious hard-earned data.  That being said I would still encourage everyone to save a copy of your Nav data on their computer before sending your unit in for servicing.
