Title: ethernetting to units
Post by: cary on May 14, 2015, 09:21:39 PM
I have a 999 and a 798.  Can I link them together even if they have different programs.  Basically all I want is to hook the waypoints together. So if I mark on my trolling motor unit it will copy to my console unit, which will have the nav card in it.

If the 798  is the HD version, you can connect them with Ethernet ..... If the 798 is not HD, you are out of luck because the only option would be the older interlink connection, and the 999 cannot use the interlink.

And in addition to what Bob mentions above ...:

Interlink actually transfers NAV data to the opposite unit in a network ...

Ethernet allows the opposite unit to read and display NAV data from the unit NAV data was created on ...

With Ethernet ...SD Card transfer of NAV data is the only way to physically get NAV data from 1 unit's library into the library of the opposite unit ...
