For those of you who have initially mounted your transducer on your trolling motor and then switched it to the transom in hopes of a clearer image, did it noticeably improve?  I ran my first unit, a 798si, under the trolling motor and was happy with the image because I knew nothing other that that.  Last year I upgraded to a Helix 10si and mounted that the same way.  I expected a much better image than what I'm seeing.  I do have the HD transducer.

So I guess what I'm asking is will going through the effort of moving the transducer to the transom result in batter imaging?  I'm talking both si and di.   thx!

There are advantages and disadvantages in both ...

Bad - TM mount images will skew somewhat when the TM is turned ...
Good - TM mount is cleaner water because there's no turbulence from the hull ...

Good - transom mount images are not as susceptible to skewing ...
Bad - hull turbulence will degrade the images somewhat ...

Most mount the Imaging xducer at the position that the user will get the most benefit from the scanning technology ...

It is possible to get good images on the TM ... One just needs to keep the TM straight when "pretty internet pix" are the goal ...

Thanks.  Good point and I do keep the TM straight with this setup.  I wasn't very clear about it but was wondering more from a TM interference perspective.  I run a Terova with Helix cable running through the channel provided.

If you want consistently good images from the trolling motor, here is how you do it.
