997 screen locked on loading

 After downloading 5.840 from this site my 997 locked up on the loading screen, I"M not to impressed at all this BS when I had a working unit before with the 6.30 software that came in my used unit . I was guided to do so to help my unit work better with navionics platinum, Anyone have any ideas on whats going on? Or do I need  to send the unit back to humminbird for a tune up? IT Just gets deeper and deeper into my pocket.

You can try loading the 5.840 software into your unit via the bootstrap method but if that does not work you will have to send it into Humminbird.  You will need to purchase a cable to load the software this way – no guarantees that it will work though.

 Hi Greg,  If I send the unit to humminbird, can I get them to pre program it so I won't get into trouble with all this over the internet downloads problems? I just bought navionics gold 1XG and  plan to add platinum + , There are about ten downloads here on this site what would suggest?  OR  Can the factory make that decision on the model and age?

 Whats the cost for sending the unit back to humminbird for a tune up? Do they need my chart card to program the unit for that chart? and what if I switch to platinum +

If you send your unit in to Humminbird they will load the current software version on your unit (6.300) and not an older version.

If that is a current Platinum mapping card I would not suggest using it in your 997 unit as there have been reports of the newer Platinum mapping cards not working in the 997 units. Not sure how far back this goes with the Platinum mapping cards.

I think that there is a different charge if you are just sending your unit in for a software update.  Call the Humminbird Customer resource folks to check on this pricing.
