The two photos I've attached show the transom area on my 1993 Cajun. It's got a Johnson Fast Strike 150 mounted on the transom with no jackplate.

The previous owner has the transducer for the existing locator mounted in location A on the photos. I don't think this is correct because underneath and in front of that is where the plane of the hull actually extends deeper into the water. I've got that area marked B. That locator worked fine at low speed but with the boat on plane it would lose the signal. I'm sure location A was just a lot of air while the boat was on plane.
When I install the transducer for the 798, I'm thinking area B is a better bet. Do the experts agree with me?
Thanks,
Chad
