Topic: Transducer Mounting @ Transom

Hi. I have my 898 SI installed except for the transducer. I am trying not to drill holes in the transom. I was thinking about adding a piece of delrin to the transom with 5200 and mounting the transducer to that. Has anyone tried this or something similar? Do I need to stop sweating it and just drill the holes? Thanks in advance. Terry.

Terry,......You have normal concerns..( ), but there are a lot of boats will drilled holes.  Here is the secret.  Drill only a hole size necessary for the screw to fit snugly.  Use an epoxy or resin filler to help plug the hole as you put in the screw.  Boat shops have this in a tube.
 You could epoxy a plate to the boat for ducer bracket mounting.  Be sure to lightly sand the area first and then repaint around the added plate.
Of course if the boat is metal then maybe screws and epoxy are the best.

If you can clean the area and Delrin than I would use it versus putting holes in the boat – but than I have put many holes in many boats over the years here at Humminbird.  Just make sure that the 5200 will bond to the Delrin and your boat hull.  We have used a marine grade VHB (Very High Bond) double sided tape with good success; in fact it is what we use with our Stick-On transducer (XSO-9-20-T).
