Title: Solix Overheat
Post by: G48 on October 01, 2019, 10:43:03 PM
Hi All,

Just curious if anyone is experiencing extremely hot displays after 3-4 hours on the water with their Solix units. TT HB today and it was apparently a new issue for them and asked me to send 1 in for testing. I described my electrical setup to them and that seemed fine to the techs. I have a 12 on the bow and a 10 at the helm. It has happened on my 1st 2 trips on the water. I notice the screens begin to get hot but the housing is cool. Then as more time passes say 1-2 hours the housing begins to absorb the heat from the displays and gets hot it self. The tech asked how long after turning the graphs it takes for them to cool down and it's taking upwards of 5-6 hours to feel luke warm. This doesn't seem like a normal scenario with regular finder and the solix's are very aggressive with their power needs but they should not get that hot under normal use IMHO. Granted the 12 is angled more to direct sun but the 10 is vertical and both warm at about the same time. I'm leaning towards a certain lower voltage level when it starts happening but don't know why..just coincidence maybe. Had both graphs set at level 6 on brightness and put each in standby when moving from 1 to the other.

Anyone with Ideas? Thanks in Advance,

Gary

I have seen a few posts thru the forums indicating the same heat issue with the SOLIX units  ...

I don't recall any of those discussions involving HB in the discussion  ...
