Thats really hard to say, looks like shadows to me, but the zoom doesnt cover from what the shadows might be. Do you have another picture of the same object or just this one ?

It looks like very large black ants sitting on the bottom.
I wonder where in the heck they came from?

The length of the shadow would indicate object height.  Possibly submerged tree stumps?
