Will these two units link together?

Maybe.

If the software in your 998c Si unit is very old (version 5.210 or older) and the software in your 768 unit is updated to the latest version – than you should be able to InterLink them.  Whatever you do: DO NOT load an older version of software into your 998c Si unit than was originally in it as this could cause a terminal failure in the unit!

Ethernet connecting these units is not an option as the 768 does not have the connection, circuitry or software for this.

Which new DI unit SkeeterMatt?
Make sure that it is the 788ci HD DI, 858c DI, 998c DI or 1158c DI unit as the 500 and 300 series DI units will not have the Ethernet connection.

i was looking at the 788c di.....thanks for the info, i would hate to get one that wouldn't link up. my friend has this set up and it works great. on his the switch fire is on top of the screen and the di is on the bottom. in the pics of the unit i have seen the two views are side by side. is this a setting that allows you to switch how the views apperar on the screen?

No there is not.  Those advertisement pictures were made up before the product was released.  I don’t know if there were ever any operational units (even Engineering prototypes) that worked like that.

More like there was a design change after those pictures were made.  In this business, as in most businesses, the advertisement gets done before the product goes through final design changes.  Not the way I like it but the way it has to be.

I found it easier to read being on top and bottom rather than side by side. that's what I was most interested in. it made it easier, for me, to see fish

Hmmmm. why does it have to be.  It would seems that both groups could communicate and make changes. Taking pictures and then changing the product and using the pictures may save some money for the buipder but can get a bad taste for the buyer..
Are we just turning out "stuff" to quickly????
I would think this could be coordinated much better...
But then again the economy is a bit fragile right now..

Chuck,
Often the advertisement has to be completed and in the hands of the people who update web sites and print catalogs and advertisements (not just for our company but for our wholesalers and retailers as well) way ahead of the completed product.  If there is a significant change to the product (I would call the re-orientation of the 2D and DI sonar “significant”) than there may not be time to get everything changed before it is seen by the public.  Keep in mind that most catalogs and printed advertisements are mass printed to keep costs down, so there is often no chance to go back and reprint anything without also incurring a lot of cost.  Also, those who maintain web sites may or may not receive corrected images and if they did I would bet that most do not update those images.  We have a rather tight timeline Chuck, unlike other products that may have several years to develop, plan, design, manufacture and test.  What I think it boils down to is that if we could take several years to come to market with a new product than we could be more accurate with the advertisement of it.

I can understand the printed material but web sites should be easy to update. This is the age of the computer.
At any rate we are hi-jacking the thread so enough on this...
It will not change anything...

You would either need to use an aftermarket trolling motor adapter (Transducer Shield & Saver has one that is made for this transducer), buy the Humminbird trolling motor adapter (it does not protect like the TS&S one does) or contact the Humminbord Customer Resource folks about exchanging the transom mount transducer for a trolling motor mounted one (which is just the standard transducer with out adapter).

I ordered the ethernet cables from Humminbird last night. If I order this bracket today, is there a way to have it all shipped together?

Sorry SketerMatt, I did not get back on the web site until today.  Call and see if you can have this added to your order or if it is too late to do so.
